Walking with God.
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” – Micah 6:8
God has done it again! Praise God! The year 2018 is gone, and a brand New Year 2019 is here Hallelujah!
As I wait on God during the church end of the year 15 days prayer and fasting, for a word concerning the year 2019 for Chosen Generation. The Lord spoke to my heart that the year 2018 is the year that he wants us to walk with him as individuals and as a church.
God wants to lavish his love riches, power, splendor and blessings on his people. God wants to showcase his people so that the world will know that He is a living God. God yearns to have a relationship with his people. That is why he created Adam, and called Abraham out of his nation, kindred and his father’s house to a land where he will walk with him and He will make him a great nation (Gen. 12:1-3). God chose the nation of Israel to be his people so that he can showcase them to the world (Deut. 7:6-7). He gave Israel his laws so that they will know his do and don’ts for a good relationship.
To walk with God is to know God intimately to a level that God is not only a father but a friend. It is by walking with God that God blesses us with his best just as a friend will do his best for his friend. When we walk with God we will always do those things that please him. Walking with God makes our relationship with God enjoyable and not legalistic. The Bible tells us about men and women that walked with God. Enoch walked with God and he became the first human being that did not experience death (Gen. 5:22-24). Moses walked with God and enjoyed God speaking to him mouth to mouth (Num. 12:8) and he delivered Israel from Egypt with unprecedented signs and wonders. The best of God is for those that walk with him. Abraham walked with God and he was called the friend of God (Jm. 2:23). Mary and Martha walked with God for they loved Jesus with a strong friendship, affection and devotion (Lk.10:38-42) and Jesus loved them back (Jn. 11:5). Jesus because of this friendship raised Lazarus their brother back to life after being dead for four days! Jesus walked with God as a result of this God’s presence was always with Jesus (Jn.8:29)
As good as it is to walk with God it comes with a cost. The Bible says in Amos. 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
- Walking with God marks the end of pleasing yourself and the beginning of pleasing God in all that you do. (Gen. 39:8-9)
- Walking with God will separate you from anything that will hinder you from pleasing God like friends, families, and lifestyles (Gen. 12:1). It will also separate you from sin because God is holy. 1Pet. 1:16, Lev. 11:44
- Walking with God will make you spend time with him in fellowship, in his house, in worship, in prayers and in the study of the word. Ps. 84:10
As individuals and as a church, I believe God loves us. God wants to bless and showcase us to our world this year that is the reason he has invited us to come and walk with. Walking with God will take us higher spiritually and give us the best of everything life offers. Will you say yes to this invitation?
On behalf of the pastorate of Chosen Generation, I welcome you to the year 2019 our year of Walking with God.- Pastor Tope Dosumu
