GOD CHASERS

“That I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings being made conformable unto his death.” Philippians 3:10

To know God is a deliberate decision backed by a strong commitment. God’s desire for his children is that they may know Him; the pursuit of knowing Him must continue until we are called up to Him: we cannot know Him enough. In Jeremiah 9:23, God said, “Thus said the Lord, let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches but let him that glorieth glory in this that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment and righteousness, in the: for in these things I delight said the Lord.”

There are many people in the bible that pursued God: they are called “God Chasers” because they deliberately decided to commit themselves to seeking and knowing Him.

The Apostle Paul is an example of a “God chaser” . . . someone who paid a high price and lost everything he had so he could know Christ! Philippians 3:8 says, “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the Excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.” For three years during his time in the city of Arabia, Paul diligently “chased” after God in order to know Him more fully.

David can be counted as another “God chaser”; a man whom God called “a man after His own heart” (1 Sam 13:14). David was a man that loved and thirsted after God! Psalm 63:1-8 tells how David sought after God so much so, that he may know him.Daniel was a “God chaser” and continued to “chase after” God in spite of the price he would pay by disobeying King Darius’ decree which forbade anyone from praying to God or man for 30 days (Daniel 6:7). Rather Daniel because of his pursuit of God, he was ultimately delivered by God from the mouth of the Lion!Much like Paul and Daniel, Moses was also a “God chaser” and because he longed to know God even more, Moses asked the Lord to show him “all His ways,” Exodus 33:13.

To be a “God chaser”, we must, like Paul, be ready to give up everything and seek him with all our hearts. We can do so by feeding on the scriptures, through committed times of prayer and through our worship. The knowledge of God is the gateway to a victorious life: a life of signs and wonders. In Daniel 11:32b it says, “but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits.”

This month of April is our prophetic month of “that I may know him.” Let us be committed to being “God chasers” and to be read to pay the price of knowing God through time in His word, through prayer, and in our worship. Let us be prepared and ready to confront and destroy everything that is a stumbling block in our quest to know God! As we chase after the knowledge of Him this month, signs and wonders shall surely attend to us in Jesus’s mighty name!
