Higher ground is moving to the next level of your life which ultimately leads to where
God has destined for you in life. Regardless of your present position or situation in life
God’s agenda is to take you to your higher ground. You may be in a pit like Joseph (Gen
37:24), in the desert like Moses (Ex. 3:1), in Lodebar like Mephibosheth (2Sam 9:4-13),
in hiding like Gideon (Judges 6:11), under the fig tree like Nathaniel (Jn 1:48-51), or on
the way to Damascus like Saul (Act 9:3-6). God’s plan is not for you to get stuck in these
positions but to take you to your higher ground. Job 8:7 says ‘Though your beginning
was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase’. Our God who is higher than the
highest (Eccl. 5:8), is ready to take you to an enviable position where men will look up
unto you. He has not destined you to be hewers of wood and drawers of water (Josh 9:2),
among men but to be set up on higher ground for men to see His glory in your life. Deut.
28:1 says
‘And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy
God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command thee this day that the
Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth’. Habb 3:19 says ‘The
Lord God is my strength, and He will make my feet like hinds feet and He will make me
to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments”.
It is good to note that God had to rebuke His people and commanded them to go to the
next level on their way to the Promised Land after getting stuck for many days in Seir
forgetting that they had not gotten to the land flowing with milk and honey HE promised
them. Deut 2:1-3 says ‘Then we turned and took our journey, unto the wilderness by the
way of the sea, as the Lord spake with me: and we compassed mount Seir many days 2
and the Lord spoke unto me saying, 3 ye have compassed this mountain long enough turn
ye northward’.
I believe many of us have got stuck where we are for a long time and God is saying we
should move to the next level of our lives. In 2Kings 6:1-6, the bible tells us the story of
the sons of the prophet who decided to move to higher ground even though they were
living with Elisha, that great prophet they decided not to put a limit on their life and
decided to build a bigger place for themselves thereby moving to the next level of their
lives.
Jer 29:11 says ‘For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts
of peace, and not of evil to give you an expected end’.
For us to experience higher ground we must 1. See beyond our current circumstances. 2.
Recognize that God is with us. 3. Make every decision count. 4. Associate with right
people. 5. Believe in something greater than yourself and be committed to it.
A wise man said ‘When you go higher you see better’. In this month of higher ground
you will go higher in every area of your life in Jesus name. Where you are right now is
too crowded there are rooms for you at the top. John the beloved heard these words in
Rev 4:1. ‘After this I look, and, behold a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice
which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me ; which said Come up hither,
and I will show thee things which must be hereafter’.
I see God asking you to come to your higher ground. See you at the top. Welcome to the
month of higher ground!- Pastor Tope Dosumu
